The Acanthus leaf mantelpiece is a Regency period chimneypiece design that has remained popular since its introduction. This marble chimneypiece is characterised by the carefully shaped acanthus leaf capitals atop the gently tapering reeded jambs.

The Regency period lasted a mere nine years, from February 1811 until January 1820. In 1810, George III was taken seriously ill. He was declared incapable of ruling because of mental incapacity and the Regency Act was passed the following year making his son George Prince Regent on behalf of his father, King George III.
